Kiwi for Gmail App Reviews

Finally a gmail client.

Skeptical at first but I really Like this application. It makes it simple to switc between accounts and everything really does work. 2-FA, One Touch 2-FA for my work account. Great Job!

Buggy but better UI than web gmail

After using it for several months here are some thoughts on Kiwi: Does the job better than most but some significant bugs / UI issues 1) Occasional issues with moving emails to folder; just won’t when dragging and dropping. Irritating and frustrating. Works fine when using longer “move” button. 2) Occasionally just dies for no apparent good reason and in many situations. Process just ends and you have to manually restart it. 3) Threaded conversations are pretty much a major issue; it really needs a chronological view of all contributors to a thread as a default. Not sure what it is now but it’s pretty twisted. On the wish list; 1) when looking at long lists of email, it’s a pain to have to drag the email up to the top to move from social | promostions to primary boxes; wish there was a floting header or something for that. 2) Wish there was easy and fast way, within the email review window, to automatically go to the next or previous message after you look at it or delete it (see apple mail on iPhone). 3) Avatars for people in my gmail contacts? 4) Improved UI affordances for mobile version - quick way to click through to next/previous emails, delete, star, etc from inside a message. Mobile version seems like repeat of desktop version rather than rethink of mobile needs.

Great GMAIL interface

Kiwi solves my problem of needing to juggle multiple gmail accounts. It is wonderful.

Keep track w/o memory hogging

Kiwi for Gmail lets me keep track of my 6 Gmail accounts without consuming as much RAM as 6 tabs open in a browser. Clicking on links in emails opens a new browser tab as easily as it does within your browser. At first, I thought the price was too much, but it works well, I like that I can completely close the browser and still have access to email, and freeing up the extra memory makes the price worth it in my opinion.

Absolutely neccessary

If you rely predominantly on gmail and want to maintain the functionality of the gmail web app (esp. labels, organziation, etc.) this app is a MUST! It is significantly more convinient than accessing gmail via a web browser and is a big improvement over the built in Mail App.

Happy user for 15+ months. Looking forward to Gmail plugins support!

I was an early supporter and participated in the beta. 15+ months after it was released to the App Store, I remain a satisfied customer. I do still open Gmail in Chrome somewhat frequently, but if the development team is able to deliver soon on its promise of Gmail plugins, I may never feel compelled to open Gmail (+Calendar/Contacts/Etc.) in Chrome in MacOS again. If youve been waiting to buy this, now may be a good time. After the last couple of updates, it is now reliably faster and more stable than Gmail in the browser, and support for plugins should be coming soon. The team at Kiwi really seems to care about maintaining and continually improving the App.

Best Gmail Client for Mac, hands down

Nothing but great things to say about this. Wonderful interface, time-saving features, fixes all that is terrible about using gmail in a browser. Especially helpful if you have multiple Gmail accounts. Get it.

Great App!

Works like the web-based app without the browser. No crashes, works like it should. Well worth the cost. I like it.

Its just like gmail

This program is fine. It does what it says and it replicates Gmail perfectly. Frankly, that is my problem with it. Yeah it works extremely well with the Gmail integration points. I guess I was hoping it would provide the option for more of a traditional email client.

A Great Alternative

Been using Kiwi for a week. The setup for my 3 Gmail accounts ran smoothly and was up and running within minutes. Still getting used to the layout and accessing different features but so far am liking what I am seeing. Wish maybe there was a different approach for listing of email accounts other than a color in the top right. But, overall, very impressed and like the change from MacMail. Great job!

Good bit glitchhy

Its good but glitches and freezes at times. Useful in an assortment of ways

Exactly what I was looking for.

I needed a solution that would allow me to use multiple email accounts. I own a marketing/technology company and need to have access to both emails on the same client. Using Gmail on my laptop I could not get notifications of new mail. This client solved all my problems and it is by far the best 10 dollars I’ve ever spent. I switched over from Thunderbird which was a nightmare. Constant crashes couldn’t update it on Mac issue after issue. Thank you to the makers of Kiwi great product!

Good App

Good app, keeps multiple Gmail accounts open in window that’s separate from the browser. Handles Drive and Cal as well. Occassionally it gets hung up on something but just restart it and you’re good.

Buggy

It constantly gets stuck and I force quit it. Many times one account shows a blank screen and there is no way to recycle / refresh. Waste of money...

Long-time user review (3 months)

WOULD I RECOMMNED THIS APP? Not a chance! For an app I paid $9.99… it is WAY too buggy! REVIEW: Like everyone else here, finally… a convenient app that lets you bypass an internet browser and/or the built-in Mail app. I have to say, my favorite feature has got to be the display of multiple Gmail accounts. Too good to be true!... Well, it is. The app is plagued with the occasional “gray screen”. Basically, everything will initially load fine… you’ll check your mail and go about your business. After you return form whatever you were doing, all of the sudden, certain accounts will display a gray screen. This forces me to Force Quit the app and reopen it. I contacted Zive about the issue on January 3rd. They said: “We are aware of this issue and are working on a fix as we speak. The best work-around is to restart Kiwi for Gmail when it happens but also to restart it periodically as that seems to reduce the frequency.” Per their recommendation, I restated the program every time I encountered an issue, but recently discovered that there is an underlying problem. WARNING - Techie-Stuff: Under the Activity Monitor app, each restart causes my CPU to get tied-up with something called “Kiwi for Gmail Helper”. I’ve had up to 7 of these bad-boys bog down my CPU. I was forced to restart my computer. This app has great potential, but I can’t justify a 5-star review. Most reviwers probably gave the app 10-minutes and were like “Wow! This app is awesome!… let me write a review.” Don’t believe the 5-star hype.

Not worth money

If this was a free app (I know they have a free version but it didn’t fit my needs so I paid) it would be 4 stars. If I pay money for an app, I do not expect to have to force quit it multiple times a day. I do not expect that the basic functionality of opening a specific inbox (I use 3 gmail accounts) should not work 100% of the time. That’s right, it never works correctly. The fact that I gave it 3 stars is because I have found workarounds to make it work for me, but it’s ridiculous considering I paid money towards this thing being developed. I pray for an update that makes this worth the money, but until that prayer is answered, you’re better off with something free, a different app, just using your browser, or sucking it up and complaining about it like me. Good luck deciding!

Great Job!!! WAY better than the normal IMAP client!

Really a fan, something about having the actual gmail client fast and responsive but unshackled from the browser is really sweet. Gives notifications, acts as a default mail client (so you can actually click on a mailto link, and doesn’t take forever to download messages. I use this at work in an environment where i have an average of 60-70k conversations in an average month, and Kiwi does a fantastic job! With IMAP, my computer would spend more than an hour a day downloading messages, with Kiwi, it’s just ready to go!

x

Ok, for real, fix the app. It’s been crashing when switching accounts for months now with no update.

Less powerful & less useful than using a web browser

This is worse than using the browser. These reviews have to be fixed. This app cannot match the basic functionalities that a browser has to offer. Some of the most useful browser extensions that sync with Google Apps do not function properly. Also, browser extensions altering Gmail or Outlook in any way will not function properly. There’s plenty of free alternatives out there. Don’t waste your money.

Great idea, but super buggy

I really, really want to like this app. I have a lot of gmail accounts (mostly from my own domains) and this is a much cleaner way to check them than using Mail is. Unfortunately, this app is also very broken. Notifications don’t always work properly (the badge will tell me I have unread emails, but the little mail icons won’t indicate which account has the message), I get random grey screens, sometimes the app just locks up completely.. it’s no fun. Also, the sash looks awful on a retina MPB. This will be a 5-star app for sure once they squish the bugs, but until then I am not happy about the price tag on this buggy app.
