Kiwi for Gmail App Reviews

I Like It!

I got in at the very beginning. I like the app. It will become my default email client when they get the promised pulgins incorporated. I need to be able to be able to schedule emails to be send at a later date. I also need to be able to see if emails were received and/or opened. Then is app will be complete and very useful for me. Thanks for a good app and keep plugin.

WANT MY MONEY BACK!

CRASHES ALL THE TIME! what a waste of money!

Yes, it makes it easy to see multiple Gmail accounts. That’s it.

So much potential…and if all you do is read your e-mail it’s nice. Want to download an attachment? You can only do that to one spot…no ability to select a specific download folder so you have to do double work. Want to make a call directly from a phone number in an e-mail? The flash plug-in won’t work and you have to copy that number to a browser for calling to work. Double work. Want to print an attachment? You have to download it first. Double work. Mind you, these are not random tasks. This is my day. So kiwi was a good idea, I’ll just go back to switching tabs on my browser.

Solves My Biggest Google Problem

My biggest problem with Google on the Mac is that I keep closing the Web Browser. Having the Gmail web interface in a separate “mail” app seems to stop that problem. I also like that I have access to google calendar and other google features because it really is just (apparently) displaying an adapted web page, and that I can send it full screen if I want. There are other feature that are nice, such as account switching through the window and menu bars, notification integration, and so on. I still find I go back to Apple Mail for my Work mail because it is familiar, but I have moved my personal email accounts at work to Kiwi as part of my efforts to have a cleaner inbox experience. Overall, if you like google web mail, but want a standalone alternative to using a web browser, this is well worth a look.

It’s great!

Great alternative to get out of the browser and it has all the functionality from the web.

Great concept, but a little buggy

This app is a great solution for someone who has to toggle between several gmail accounts (I have three for work and one personal). It prevents my Google docs permissions from getting messed up as I bounce from email account to email account. My only issue is that it crashes quite a bit and still seems pretty buggy. I hope they work out the kinks (and integrate add-ons like Boomerang) and then I’ll be a full-fledged cheerleader.

Almost There

I like that they wrap the Web client so you get all the goodness, plus a native shell. Unfortunately, I’ve seen a few issues: 1) It occasionally hangs when swapping back to it or between accounts. The screen inside the window is just blank and won’t recover without a force quit and restart. 2) Setting it as the default mail client seems to unset regularly back to Mail. Also, a specific issue: clicking to email a tweet from TweetDeck app totally fails and resets to default Mail, every time. Unfortunate since this is a benefit of a native client over the Web. 3) You can’t use standard browser commands like CMD++ to zoom or CMD+F to find on page. That’s pretty annoying. 4) Sometimes when opening a new mail, it just shows a blank window. On the plus side, it is effective at multiple account management.

Really Useful

If you’re using multiple Google accounts, this is an excellent tool. it allows me to keep two accounts open at any one time - I manage at least 20 accounts for the web sites I develop and support. But even if you don’t have that many, this tool saves the mindless Google opening and closing needed when working with multiple Gmails at the same time.

Great Gmail client for 2 years and on

Ive worked on kiwi mostly through work for about 2 years or more and I have not looked back to getting onto apple’s version of mail. Kiwi in its simplisity makes it worth its weight in gold for me. Thank you Kiwi Team for making a great product; 5 Stars or more if I could.

Still Buggy

I had hopes that the new update, with its long list of bug fixes, would begin to live up to Kiwis potential. However upon launching it I was met with a completely blank window. I have 4 gmail accounts set up, 2 of them work, 2 of them show blank windows. hitting "reload" doesnt help, the only thing that helped was deleting then re-adding them. Not a good sign. Also, the unread count STILL doesnt work, even though thats one thats listed as "fixed" (again)

No Longer Functions - No Updates

Service has become glitchy, freezes up, and will not update inbox regularly. Have to manually close out the program and relaunch constantly. Was told to complete the latest update but the only update I found was for Kiwi Lite. I’ve been a paid user since January of this year. Client support has been of little help and hasn’t followed up regularly. Kiwi has become so unusable that I’ve gone back to using the web-based gmail. I wish I could get my money back.

Keeps crashing, no updates

The app crashes or freezes switching between multiple accounts and clicking on links. I’ve written to the support back in March 2016, they were working on a fix, but no updates whatsoever. Looking for alternatives now.

Multiple accounts issue fixed

The multiple accounts integration is fixed with this last update. It works great. So far no issues from me. Thanks for fixing that problem

Updated Review!!!

Update (8.2.2016): I have some concerns every time there’s an update. Working smooth as usual. No big updates yet, but I hope to see more third party updates! Update (7.18.16): AFTER this update, the few glitches I’ve noticed with the app seem to be GONE! I’m very pleased with this update. I’m hoping that they will continue to add new features. Of note, one of the major updates is zipping entire folders for emails. At first I thought I can drag and drop a folder, but their directions specify that you "right click" on the folder and select “Share” from Kiwi for Gmail. It really works and it is quite useful for me as a grad student as I need to share an entire folder of articles with other students without using Dropbox or Google Drive. Update (1.8.16): These guys really CARE about the user experience. The most recent major updates also includes the following: (1) Increase text size by a shortcut (keeping with the OS X UI paradigm): Command (+) or (-) (2) New event on calendars have a shortcut: Control + Option + Command + E (for Event) just like the shortcut for a new message window (M instead of E). I’m looking forward to what this means for future updates! For someone who has three gmail accounts (one for school, one for personal and one for professsional), this application provides what I have been waiting for. No more being kicked out of one of the email accounts repeatedly. No more multiple sign-ins in one day. My favorite feature is the “Do not disturb” switch. For a grad student who needs to shut down distractions while being connected to email is very helpful - the unread count disappears, and you have no more distractions of new emails coming in. My second favorite feature is the new message window that I can access without looking at my mailbox; let’s be honest, sometimes you don’t want to see your inboxes - you can go to the menu bar icon and click to get a new message box from any of your gmail accounts without seeing your inboxes. Lastly, I love how I can access my calendar from any of my accounts in separate windows at the same time - and works better than in the browser. I used to use different browsers to be able to see my school and personal calendar at once. Now I no longer need to do that. Awesome!!!

Good, almost great

I really like this App - it is great to have Gmail in a window of its own, handling multiple accounts - I like to keep it in one Desktop and my browser in another so I can switch back and forth. It works very well (most of the time) and integrates with the other Google apps well. I do have a few quibbles: • Sometimes, it does misbehave, particularly if it has been open for a while (like a week…). Popup windows, such as the calendar, can appear as outlines only with transparent content. When this happens, I quit and relaunch, and I’m good again in a matter of seconds. • If I accidentally close the main email browsing window, I haven’t found a good way to get it back again. So… quit & relaunch. A little annoying… but not enough for me to stop using it or go searching for something else. I figure it will be worked out soon. Otherwise, it is an excellent productivitiy tool, one which I hope will continue to work as well as it does! UPDATE: As of Summer 2016, they have put out a major update, and the crashing hasn’t happened to me since. Still haven’t figured out how to reopen the window, but quit and restart takes about 5 seconds.

Best Gmail Mail App I’ve Found

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I really like it. Great alternative to leaving Chrome open in the background 24/7 for email. And if/when they roll out the planned support for extensions, it’ll be even better.

Just wasted $10 bucks

All this does is duplicate the Gmail screen that you can see through any browser. It offers no special enhancements that you can do already with Gmail options. Don’t waste your money. FIVE THUMBS DOWN. Only gets one star because I could not give it less.

Great App

This app works flawlessly, finally a gmail app that is truly stand alone app and works. The first line says it all, I’m real happy with this app, gmail in it’s own window fantastic without using your browser. You did a great job making it work.
